Salzburg Hat Shops by ErWeSa

Ladies and Gentlemen,

following Steve's invitation I am going to present my hats in this splendid forum. I am not a new media man - so please forgive me imperfections in this field. Strictly speaking I am no hat collector either, I am just interested in headgear in general, its making, the trades, the firms so when I come across a nice vintage specimen that doesn't cost much I can't resist. I got all of my hats but 2 on flea markets, so they are not as mint as many of those I saw here.

Let me start with some pictures taken today in Salzburg, my hometown, from the few remaining hat shops and what can still be seen of those which were closed.

1. Hut Geiger: Used to be in the big shop, now "Monbijou" - the usual tourist shop. Geiger is just round the corner in Goldgasse now.

UPDATE 2019: Geiger has given up completely.

2. Collins: The last bigger store in Salzburg.

UPDATE 2019: There is still a hat shop there, yet it is no longer Collins but Zapf, a producer from Salzburg /Werfen

6. Anton Blum Dreifaltigkeitsgasse 15.: Nothing left there. This article explains what happened to the complex of buildings there.

The Blum shop must already have been closed when this photo was taken in 1970, it is the shop far left.

I had the chance to check further adressbooks (1953 - 1963, forgot to get 1958). Suprising the change of hatshops/makers. In 1955 a new shop appears, Andress. Then there was an Ita branch at Zell am See, but just shortly as it seems. And there is Slama, but only as Herrenausstatter, not as hat shop. (Comments by ErWeSa / Wolfgang)
