  1. I wanted to attach the file, but it exceeds the 18KB size even as a PDF. Perhaps I can email it to you?
  2. I haven't posted in quite some time, but wanted to share my recent progress on the the history of my great-grandfather's hatmaking busiess, LITAL (Vienna). I have written a chapter about his apprenticeships in Budapest and Vienna (1892-1899) and would welcome feedback from readers. I could post the chapter here or email it. Not sure what the proper protocal is. I would be very interested in learnng where/how apprentices lived during their training as I have not found any information on this subject.
  3. Well, it only took me five years to really examine this post! Thank you! I found several entires for my great-grandfather, Sigmund Lichtanthal and his sone, Paul. It is ingteresting that there no ad for the company, Lital, considering Sigmund (also called Joachim) was a committee member. I also found a listing for another company at the address of the Lital compnay (Mariahilferstrasse 88a) so now I need to research that!!
  4. It takes me a long time, but eventuallyI get back to work! I finally looked inside the hat per your request. There is no paper label, or any thing else for thatg matter, under the leather band inside the hat. What does that mean? For some reason I was unable to upload a pictire. Even though I compressed them it still says its too big.
  5. I have just resumed researching my great-grandfather's hat company, Lital, in Vienna. I will look into the info on the sweatband ASAP. What other kind of information would be of interest to this group? I have examples of hatboxdes as well as my great-grandfather's awards and patents for various hatboxes. I also have his "Arbeitsbuch" which lists his places of apprenticeship and work in Budapest and Vienna (1892-1899)
  6. Here is a picture of the the Lital shop in Vienna, Austria. My grandfather is the gentleman on right hand side. The picture appears to be blurry. I need to resize it and will repost if someone would like to see it better.
  7. Here are pictures of a Lital hat and a print ad for the company. This was my great-grandfather's company. They owned a hat factory and four stores until the business was taken by the Nazis in 1938. I would appreciate any information people may have about Lital.
  8. Attached is a print ad for for my great-grandfather's hat company Lital. Vienna, Austria @ 1929.
  9. I am researching my grandfather's hat company, Lital, active in Vienna in the early 1900s. From what I know there was a factory and at least 4 stores, one of which was located at VII Mariahilferstrasse 88a. I have looked through several of the resources on this forum and strangely see almost no mention of this company. The exception is the 1926 Austrian Hat Industry guide which lists both my grandfather and his father. I would be grateful for any information on this company. I do have some things (by photo and scans) to offer if the members are interested. A few items are: actual Lital hat (I won it on eBay!!), several hat boxes, patents for a triangular hat box, patent for special treatment for fur, photo of the store (early 1930 maybe), advertisement for Lital hats from the 30s.
