#1913 Ferdinand Walter Mödling - Baden

Posted by habigman on 12 June 2018 - 06:32 AM in Austrian Hat Companies

Ferdinand Walter Mödling - Baden (Austria), 5.25 oz / 149 g,  excellence condition, possibly 1930s could late 1920s.  Ferdinand Walter Mödling - Baden appears in the Austrian Hat Industry Guide (1926) but not sure if they made hats.  There is no other company mark.  The felt is fantastic same with the form.  The bow is slightly offset.

Berlin Gubener Hutfabrik "Turf", Weather - Proof, Crown Open 5 1/2, Brim 2 1/2 inches, 55cm probably early 1950s. The mixed color felt on this hat is really extraordinary. Also great form and interesting Bow and Over Welt. I am guessing Friedrich W. Schneider Köln (still in business today and own Stetson Europe) licensed the B.G.H. mark and the hats was sold by Jung Augsburg (also still in business today).

#1907 Josef Mauerer Hutfabrik Wien

Posted by habigman on 21 May 2018 - 10:14 PM in Austrian Hat Companies

Borsalino "Cocisca", French Point Size 5 1/2, 2.9 ounces / 83 grams probably early 1960s.  This hat was sold by Mauerer Vienna so for the Austrian market.  The felt is very light weight with a fantastic Chamois finish and interesting "Ramarro" Green color (Verde Ramarro = Green Lizard).  If you look closely you can see a stitched brim binding most likely applied for stability + protection due to very light weight felt.

#1906 Anton Pichler Hutfabrik, Josef Pitchler & Söhne

Posted by habigman on 19 May 2018 - 08:53 PM in Austrian Hat Companies

Josef Pichler & Söhne Graz, 56cm, possibly later 1930s early 1940s (see below).  The hat is in NOS condition but unfortunately the brim was trimmed down to 2 inches.  It came with the 1930s light green JHS "Standard Crystal Velour"  I posted last week and was sold by the same store Rudolf Hanus Wien so it could be from a similar time period.  The overall quality of this hat is high and the felt is fantastic (color, finish, hand).  Josef Pichler was a brother of the more well known Anton Pichler.

This Erko Velour belongs to Lecky on FL. He found it in a Munich Vintage shop along with another hat. I believe this hat is from the 1930s. It has had some fixes to the sweatband and possibly the ribbon has been replaced or poorly fixed.

J. Hückel ´s Söhne "Standard" "Crystal Velour", French Point Size 5 1/2, Brim 2 1/4 inches, Crown Open 6 inches probably 1930s. The overall condition of the hat is near mint condition. The "Crystal Velour" condition, color (light shade of green), finish and hand are fantastic. This is definitely one of my best finds in a while.

#1898 "Echt Panama" J. Pul Muntplein 5 Amsterdam

Posted by habigman on 13 April 2018 - 07:56 PM in General Discussion

"Echt Panama" J. Pul Muntplein 5 Amsterdam, 59cm, Crown 5 inches, Brim 2 3/8 inches probably mid to late 1950s maybe later. This hat was one of a recent 3 hat find that included a Rehfus & Cie. / Hutfabrikanten Homburg and a Echter Borsalino Homburg. I tend to think it was blocked and dressed locally. I really like the ribbon design and blocking / form.

#1897 Borsalino (German Market)

Posted by habigman on 12 April 2018 - 04:47 PM in German Hat Companies

Echter Borsalino "Gulaela" Export Qualität, French Point Size 6 1/2, Crown Open 5 1/2 inches, Brim 2 3/8 inches probably later 1950s. The overall condition is excellence. The medium weight "Pomice/Pumice" color felt is fantastic. It easily dry creases and has an fine hand. I didn't take a photo of the paper label but it doesn't have the vertical "Borsalino" on the left side. "Export Qualität" was added around the mid to later 1950s and "Echter Borsalino" was dropped in the early 1960s. "Export Qualität" remained in use until the mid 1980s but eventually fell out of use after the original Borsalino factory was closed and the company was sold.

#1896 Rehfus & Cie. / Hutfabrikanten

Posted by habigman on 11 April 2018 - 10:40 PM in German Hat Companies

Rehfus Hutfabrikanten / & Cie. "Olympia Extra Quality", Size French Point 5 1/2, Crown Open 5 1/2 inches, Brim 2 3/8 inches probably mid to later 1950s. I don't come across many Rehfus hats so was very happy to find this one. The felt is medium weight with a smooth finish and a very smooth hand. Rehfus & Cie / Hutfabrikanten is from the Kehl am Rhein, Germany which is directly across from Strasbourg / Strassburg so probably the reason for using French Point Sizing which is unusual (maybe the only one post WWI) for German Hat Companies.

Carl Jacobs Halle a/S., measures 57cm, probably WWI era maybe later.  No company mark but probably made by one of the hat companies in Guben or Luckenwalde.  Currently I can't make out the symbol above Carl Jacob on the liner.  It has a over welt brim with a slightly offset smaller scale bow and a unique shinny lime green liner.  The Velour is in very good condition and have a very nice glossy finish and fine hand.
