  1. Maysers silk Top Hat (Zylinderhut) size 59cm arrived yesterday. It has some wear but not bad for the price plus rarity. This is the first pre WWII Mayser hat (of any type) I have encountered. I am thinking this one is early 1900s. The "Form:" on the paper label is "1915" which might be the production year. The box is in very poor condition but original.

  2. Thanks for the quick answer Steve! I have to keep my eyes open then. A size 59 fits if it is a long oval. Otherwise I need a 59,5 or 60...

What is your source for bowlers?

    Thanks, le.gentleman

My contact is someone I bought from in the past. He specializes in Toppers and Bowlers. I will ask him if he has any in 60cm available. I would also look around at antique malls in your area. I found this really nice size 7 3/8 Stetson Bowler + original box at an antique mall 2 miles from my house!

    My link

  3. This is a nice one, where did you find it and do you know a great source for vintage bowler hats other than ebay?

I saw this Bowler on ebay lately, what do you think of it?

I got that one on Germany eBay. The seller was out of Saxony. My guess is the hat company is also from that general area. I have a source in Germany for vintage Bowlers. Are you interested in size 59cm? The linked Bowler is modern and doesn't have the brim curl and construction methods you see in vintage city Bowlers. The early 1960s is the cutoff point for Bowlers.

  4. Made by C. W. N (from paper label) and measures around 58cm. I am pretty sure this is a wool hat but it has a totally different feel from modern wool hats. The cord is detached and there is some damage to the liner but not bad for an such an old one (probably early 1900s). There is some writing in the front of the sweat that I can't make out.

  5. Restored version of the Halban & Damask Wien Hat Display stand. It is made of brass with a copper finish. There were some scratches on the copper finish that couldn't be fixed but I think it looks nice plus very unique. At least I haven't seen anything like it. Probably from just before WWI so displayed with a period Hückel Melone.

What is interesting is the company that made the stand TH Hausermann & Co. is still in business today making specialized printed circut boards.

I was able to find some Hungarian newpaper ads from the 1920s that mention KuK Hof Hutfabrikten Halban & Damask Wien but nothing else.

  6. Negretti Adonis Bowler (Melone). Probably early 1900s and from Brandenburg or Saxony. Measures around 59cm but looks like it was stretched. Turns out Negretti is a type of wool (see below). Very nice quality.

  7. This very unique Mayser ashtray turned out to be high quality. The drawings were done by Marga Trautloft - Mayser. Not sure if she was a designer or the time period although it has an old vintage feel.
