habigman
J. Hückel´s Söhne "Jota" "Seal Velour", 56 cm, possibly late 1930s. This is the 2nd hat from my recent 9 hat find. The Velour is really fantastic (color, finish, hand) and very pliable. The sweatband is textured and is very soft. The tip patch is in mint condition and the hat appears to have been seldom worn. This hat was sold by Julius Reiter Eger / Cheb Czechoslovakia (prior to WWI Austria Hungary). Open Crown

habigman
J. Hückel´s Söhne "Lutra", 56 cm, possibly late 1930s. This is the 7th hat from my recent 9 hat find. This is my first JHS "Lutra" which means European Otter so possibly similar marketing to "Seal Velour". The Felt is really fantastic (color, finish, hand) and very pliable. It's a Trachten style Soft Felt which is also the case for my early Tonak Plant Hückel "Lutra". The Folkish Band is really interesting / unique. This hat was sold by Julius Reiter Eger / Cheb Czechoslovakia (prior to WWI Austria Hungary). Open Crown

habigman
J. Hückel´s Söhne "Foulard" / Drei - Spitz Marke, Gustav Sellckau Hamburg, FP 6 3/4, Date Stamped 09/16/1931. This Stiff Felt was made by J. Hückel´s Söhne (JSH) for Gustav Sellckau Hamburg (GSH). I have not encountered a "Foulard" JHS Stiff Felt before so it's unique. It's Date Stamped (09/16/31) which is rare for JHS (probably stamped by GSH) and the Paper Label Type is very similar to the JHS Stiff Felt Paper Label Types 1a, 1b and 2 (which are all similar). The Felt has a very nice finish and overall condition is excellent. I have not encountered this type of Sweatband before and it is marked "J / Special" so most likely custom for GSH. Similar to JHS Stiff Felt Paper Label Types 1a, 1b and 2. "J / Special" Sweatband Date Stamp 16. Sept. 1931. Possibly in Zoll or Inches. habigman
J. Hückel´s Söhne "Elastic", 57.5 cm, 118 grams. possibly mid 1920s to early 1930s. This is a Ladies Stiff Felt Riding Hat but since it's a JHS + very unique I decided to pick it up. It appears to be entirely original and in NOS condition. The Black smooth finished Felt is the same as a Men's JHS "Elastic" Stiff Felt. The 4.5 cm Brim is not curled and has downward flange with a thin Binding. The Grosgrain Sweatband with padded which is stitched in with a X pattern. The Bow is on the left side like Men's Hats. There is also has a long fabric Strap which you see on some Ladies Hats. I couldn't find a paper label so maybe this was custom made by JHS. Definitely a very unique piece for my museum.

habigman
J. Hückel´s Söhne "Omega", French Point 5 1/2, possibly late 1920s early 1930s. I only know of one other JHS "Omega" Velour (also made for the French Market) on FL that belongs to Robert (RLK) and was found in 2013. The medium weight light absorbing black Velour is of very high quality with high gloss and very pliable so easily dry creases. It's non Liner type with Crown patch. The Band is wide with an interesting Bow design. The Sweatband has the JHS Hanging Cord at the rear. The Paper Label is JHS Post WWI Soft Felt Type 1. habigman
Hückel Weilheim "Mercur", 57 cm, probably later 1950s. The black Belt Felt has a really great finish and the Crown was pre Blocked so I kept it that way. The small Side Dents were popular in Germany in this time period. Really like the Band width, Bow design and the thinner Binding. The overall condition is fantastic. This Homburg Hat belonged to Franz Kirchner Forest Director in Ebern, Germany. The Gray Green "Crystall Velour" has a great finish and easily dry creases. The liner was very stained so I had to remove and bleach so it lost a good amount of color. habigman
J. Hückel´s Söhne "Jota Velour", FP 5, possibly late 1920s early 1930s. Really fantastic Black Velour that easily dry creases. There is no Hückel on the Liner and Sweatband. The JHS Crest is the similar to the "Loden" Soft Felts that also do not have Hückel on the Sweatband and Crown Tip Patch. The Paper Label is a JHS Soft Felts Post WWI Type 8 and has no mention of JHS. This hat came from a Czech source. habigman
Hückel "Wien", 58 cm, possibly early 1950s. There is no paper label but there is 58 cm round size tag. The Sweatband seam is glued and all the Hückel Weilheim hats I checked have stitched seams. The Felt is very light weight and extremely pliable which is also not like any Hückel Weilheim hat I have but this one could be earlier. Great form with contrasting black Band and light gray Binding. Open Crown Natural Light J. Hückel´s Söhne promo pocket mirror, probably 1930s. The above Hückel "Wien" Liner logo is based on this earlier JHS design. The Form has less taper so straighter sides. This Stiff Felt was made for Czech market. Post WWI JHS Stiff Felt Paper Label Type 1a. Natural Light The original owner of this JHS "Flexible" Stiff Felt was Milán Kanděra who ived in the town of Frenštát pod Radhoštěm which is a close distance from Nový Jičín whereJohann Hückel´s Söhne Hat Factory was located. Here is Milán Kanděra bio that his grandson Radovan Kanděra sent me. "The Bowler Hat belonged to my grandfather. He was born in 1897. He wore the Bowler Hat in the thirties of the last century, that is, in the period of the so-called "first republic" as Czechoslovakia was then called. That was the period 1918 from the creation of Czechoslovakia to 1939 when the war started. Grandfather was a carpenter - he had a carpentry workshop and employed about 20 people. He made various wooden things, walking sticks, chessboards, wooden tables, tables and furniture or doors and beds. I still have some other things after him. I have his walking sticks, beautifully decorated and handmade, which he wore out for walks on holidays and on Sundays on more festive occasions when he just wore the Bowler Hat." Milán Kanděra, Trade License (December 29, 1939) A beautiful Walking Stick that belonged to Milán Kanděra and that he made himself. It is handmade and the Walking Stick is inlaid with Mother of Pearl.

The Stiff Felt came with an original J. Hückel´s Söhne internal wood frame Cardboard Box (see below) which is something I have been looking for many years. The Stiff Felt is in mint condition and overall is really fantastic (one of my finest). The black Felt has a great finish and is light in weight. The black Liner has a gold embossed JHS Crest that is offset by a off white textured + decorated Sweatband. The Bow design is unique + striking. Also came with a JHS external Paper Size Tag (see below) which is also an item that I have been looking for a long time. The shop that sold all this was located in Užhorod, Czechoslovakia which was part of the Austrian Hungarian Empire up to 1919 and today Ukraine. This all came from a Czech source. Natural Light J. Hückel´s Söhne External Pape Size Tag. It was folded at the line and tab placed under the bottom of the Band / Ribbon. There is only a tiny portion of the Paper Label left. Vented Spacers were behind the rear of the Sweatband. Their installation most likely caused the missing Paper Label. Highly possible they were supplied to the shop by JHS. J. habigman
J. Hückel´s Söhne "Standard" "Crystall Velour", FP 5, possibly late 1920s early 1930s. This fantastic Velour belongs to Stefan on the FL. Here are some of his additional comments. "The raw edge brim at 6cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent. A few tiny nicks aside the felt is in excellent condition. Missing its liner though and the bow needed some correction as well. The hand of the felt is everything you'd expect from a Hückel velour." habigman
Hückel Weilheim "Extra", 58 cm possibly mid 1950s. The Black Smooth Finish Felt has a very Soft Hand and easily dry creases. The "Extra" goes back to J. Hückel´s Söhne and here is a similar earlier example. https://germanaustrianhats.invisionzone.com/topic/6-johann-hückel´s-söhne-hückel-hutfabrik-weilheim/page/7/#comment-2940 Both the early "Extra" and later "Extra" were also worn Brim Up. Open Crown Natural Light + Brim Up which I think is a better look.
